ShuMako is the ship name for the pairing of the Protagonist (Joker/Ren Amamiya/Akira Kurusu) and Makoto Niijima from the video game Persona 5. Makoto is a party member as well as a romanceable character in the game. The name ShuMako is a portmanteau of shujinkō (protagonist in Japanese) and Makoto Niijima.ShuMako is a fairly popular pairing in the Persona 5 fandom. For example, on AO3, it ranks as the 4th highest ship, between ShuAke (Joker/Akechi), Pegoryu (Joker/Ryuji) and ShuKita (Joker/Yusuke).
